Crochet is another of those multi various knitting types we have.  Though it’s not as easy as it
seems to be, here are few tips to make it easy for the beginners. Learning should be fun if you
decide to put in some effort and follow these steps practically as well to gain confidence.
Understanding Crochets Basics
To learn to crochet is not a big deal. All you need to know to be a pro is to handle the hook,
work jointly, slip knot, chain stitch and put these together and crochet rows after rows.

Hooking:

Start off with holding a pencil. The hook should have a resting finger and it should be no
problem to locate your thumb gain control.
Working in unison:

Gaining a command over the hook is important and once this is learnt the next step is learning
to apply pressure with the thumb and the middle finger on the left. That is your right controls the
hook where as the left controls the knots and straightens them as well.

Slip knotting:

Loop your yarn about and form a pretzel shape allowing the loose ends to fall behind your loop.
Tug lightly at the ends to complete the slip knot.

Chain stitching:

Lets learn the “yarn over yo ". Firstly position a slip knot in the hook. Then, wrap the yarn first up
and then over the hook starting from the back moving to front. That’s it!  You’ve learned the chain
stitch.  Just get a hold of this as this is the basic step. Pull the yarn with the hook, bringing back
through the loop and there is the chain.

Crocheting a single line:

Crocheting many  yarn over yos leads to a line of it.  Just insert the hook at the main loop and
start the basic step over. Stitch between two loops and pull the yarn through the chain to meet at
two loops. Continue the same process to over to get a single line.

Learning these makes you half professional! To complete the other part its just few more steps
away! You only need to learn few more types of stitches and you can manage any project for that
matter with these!

Double stitching:

It’s simple to be frank. All that is needed to be done is performing the yarn over yos and
inserting and hooking the third chain. As you pull the yarn now, it goes through three loops and
the chain. Perform the same basic step, the yarn over yo and pull through the next two loops
and then again through the next two. This way the double stitch is complete

Half doubling:

It’s still repeating the basics here. Perform the yarn over yos after the hook is inserted into the
second chain away from itself. Just yarn over and connect the third loop with
the yarn.

Triple crocheting:

Repeat the basic yarn over twice and insert the hook into the fourth chain away from itself as
stated above. Yarn over and stretch the yarn through the chain and also the fourth loop at the
same time. Repeat the same through the second loop at the hook and finish them to complete
the triple crochet.

These are the basics of crocheting and once you get the hang of this you’ll enjoy it too. Just
make it a point to practice these over and over and just like I said, its only the basics that ought
to be learned!!
