Running a crafts and arts business is a great way to make some extra cash when you have

supplies each month and how much your budget will be for other miscellaneous expenses,
such as travel and labor costs, especially if you are planning on hiring an employee or two to
help with any tasks.
There are several things that you must keep in mind when setting prices for your crafts.
Obviously, you need to calculate the expenses of your materials. Next, you should do your best
to calculate any type of travel expenses. Will you be staying overnight in a hotel? Will you be
driving or flying on an airplane to get to the trade show? When you’ve finished calculating travel
costs, you also need to add in the cost of marketing your product, such as craft show fees and
advertisements. Will you be handing out flyers or other means of promotional material? What
about discounts? All of these things need to be factored in when setting the pricing of your
crafts.
Another problem that beginning crafters face is deciding whether or not there is a suitable
market for their product. A great way to find out whether or not people like your craft is to ask as
many friends and family as possible. Get their honest opinion on your product and ask them if
they think that any modifications would help it to become more attractive and pleasing to the
eye. You can also attend small crafts shows and take note of the opinions of people who come
and visit your booth. Try not to spend too much money on making your booth look fancy
because at this point, all you are doing is finding out how you can improve your product to make
it more marketable. Make sure you are responsive to potential customers and keep track of any
suggestions or comments that you overhear pertaining to your products. Another great location
for checking the marketability of your product is online crafts forums. The community in a crafts
forum is generally very supportive, and you can ask questions and post pictures of your product
to get some suggestions about it. A benefit of participating in online crafts forums is the fact that
there will most likely be several very experienced crafters there that can offer you advice on how
to improve your crafts business. You’ll find online crafts forums to be a veritable treasure trove
of information about the crafting business, and you can discuss ideas and improvements with
fellow crafters that will help to make your crafting experience a very successful one.
