Embroidery is the skill of making a product look more attractive and unique. Embroidery can
be done on fabrics, ornaments, kitchenware and gifts also. Thread, yarn are used to make
embroidery on fabrics. Sewing machines come in handy to create several designs on fabrics.

shells, corals, wood and so on. The raw materials used in different combinations are
necessary to make various forms of jewelry such as bracelets, bangles, necklaces, etc.
Similarly rings and earrings can also be made. Embroidered jewelry has a great place in the
export market and is very much in demand in other country.

Now we come to the area of Embroidered Gifts. Gifts in any form are acceptable and if it is
embroidered it adds more flavor to the gift. Embroidered gifts are very appealing and can be
gifted on any occasion. The intricate embroidery work gives a personal touch to the gifts. The
contemporary look of these embroidered gifts catches the fancy of many individuals. Materials
such as denim, silk, pure leather, wood etc are used to embroider gifts.

Progression in time has led to progression in fabrics. New innovative designs have always
been used on fabrics since the primitive age. New designs are created by embroidery and it
has become indispensable for fabrics. In embroidery, basically threads are used and any type
of form, figure or design is created on a fabric. Very often we come across cushion covers,
which are embroidered. Attractive embroidered bags are made and are sold in the market.
Polyester, cotton, rayon, wool, silk are the different kinds of fabrics, which can be embroidered.

Indian Embroidery has a unique identity of its own. Indian embroidered fabrics such as Zardozi
and bidri on silks, Kantha and Kathi on cotton, Chikankari on linen has become a trend in
Indian and international markets. India is a vast country with a massive population. So is the
craftsmanship and skill of the human race here. Indians make several methods and favorable
designs. Embroidery patterns vary according to different regions.

In Rajasthan, we find dresses made of mirrors and beads. That is the specialty of Rajasthani
dresses. In South, we find Kasuti embroidery. Kashmiri embroidery is in tune with nature.
Leaves, fruits, flowers, creepers and several other things from nature are used to create
designs here. Phulkari is used on georgette, cotton type of materials.

There are different types of embroidery. When on an original fabric, weave is not taken into
consideration, and designs are made on it, it is called free embroidery. Stitches are decorated
on the base fabric, using laid threads, which is known as Surface Embroidery. A thick pattern,
which entirely covers the foundation fabric, is canvas work, where threads are stitched and a
fabric net is created on the fabric.

In short embroidery uplifts the spirit of man as well as woman, making them look attractive.
Skilled workmanship, creativity of man had led to this beauty of embroidery. All the states in
India have a different embroidery style and they follow a distinct pattern, hereby creating different
types of embroidery, and enhancing the beauty of the products.
