Since scrapbooking is a creative art form, there are no strict rules regarding how you should
make your scrapbook. For some scrapbookers, the main focal points of the scrapbook
design are the photographs. Others like to keep their scrapbooks busy with a variety of
different design elements.
Designing Your Scrapbooking Page
|
Getting Creative with Your Design
There are a number of different elements you can add to your scrapbook to give it a more
personalized touch. For example, you might include a number of two-dimensional items that
represent special memories or events. These might include ticket stubs from a concert or
from the theater. Other items might include love notes or newspaper clippings. In these
cases, the focal point might be the tickets, the notes, or whatever other item you are including
rather than a photograph.
Adding Extra Decorations
In addition to the focal point that you are including in your scrapbook, you will likely wish to add
other little elements to your scrapbook to make it look more attractive and to personalize it
further. Die cuts, flowers, stickers, and quilling might be added to help make your scrapbook
“pop.” When it comes to flowers, you might used punched flowers, artificial flowers, or dried
flowers. You might even dry your own flowers by pressing them and then add those to your
scrapbook – this is a particularly good idea if you have flowers from a special occasion.
Attaching Your Decorations
You have a number of different options available to you when it comes to attaching your
decorative elements to your scrapbook. In addition to using glue or tape, you can also use
brads or eyelets. If used creatively, these methods can add an extra element of design while
also keeping your design in place.
Design Basics
While the ultimate design of your scrapbook is entirely up to you, there are a few design ideas
to keep in mind. For example, you should usually only add one, two, or three quality photos to a
page. Otherwise, the page will tend to look a bit cluttered and the eye will have a difficult time
determining which picture to look at.
After you have added your few photos to the page, you can then add other embellishments and
decorative elements to the page. This is where you can let your imagination run wild. In
addition to the decorative elements already mentioned, you might wish to sketch your own
designs onto the page as well.
Planning Ahead
Before you start attaching pictures or other elements to your scrapbook page, it is a good idea
to plan your page ahead of time. You can accomplish this by sketching the page ahead of
time. Or, if you are technologically-savvy, you can use page layout computer software to get your
ideas down in front of you. By planning ahead of time, you can limit the number of mistakes you
make and the amount of materials you waste. You can also play around with different design
ideas until you find the one that works best for you.
