For those that are looking to take scrapbooking to a more advanced level that takes advantage
of technology, desktop publishing software is a great addition to your scrapbook supplies.
Scanners also help take scrapbooking to the next level as items can be scanned and digitally
stored and altered to be placed within the scrapbook album.
Creating Digital Scrapbooks
Enjoying the Advancements Technology Provides

The power and variety of available software programs continue to grow on a regular basis.
Page layout programs, for example, allow you to design your page entirely on the computer.
Even if you do not print out the design for your scrapbook, these software programs can help
you with the planning process so you can determine precisely how you want your page to look
before you create it with other scrapbooking supplies.
Of course, advanced printing options make it possible for you to design your page on your
computer and print it out as well.  Therefore, whether you like the crisp, clean look of a printed
scrapbook page or you prefer the creative, homemade quality of a page that you have put
together by hand, software programs can still be a great asset.

Sharing Your Scrapbook with Everyone

Another benefit to technological advancements is the fact that scrapbookers can scan their
books and share them via the Internet.  Or, they can create their scrapbooks entirely on the
computer and then post them on the Internet.  In either case, the Internet makes it possible for
scrapbookers to share their books with as many people as they desire.  In essence, the
Internet makes it possible for scrapbookers to self-publish – whether it is just for their own
personal benefit or for the benefit of several family members and friends.

The Digital Debate

For some, digital scrapbooking does not have the same charm as creating a scrapbook made
from the actual artifacts and memorabilia.  Nonetheless, digital scrapbooking has gained in
popularity over the past several years – and, for good reason.

In an era when many people are more comfortable with a computer than they are with a  pair of
scissors, digital scrapbooking makes it possible for anyone to get involved in the hobby.  Even if
you do not consider yourself to be a very artistic person, you can still create an attractive layout
and display when you engage in digital scrapbooking.

Digital scrapbooking also has many advantages over creating physical scrapbooks.  For
example, physical scrapbooking can result in wasting a great deal of materials.  Digital
scrapbooking, on the other hand, does not cause a loss of any materials since it is all
completed on the computer.  Storing digital scrapbooks is also much easier as well.  After all,
several scrapbooks can be saved on just one CD or in the person’s computer.

Digital scrapbooking also makes it easier to make changes to the look of the scrapbook
design.  In fact, you can change your design as often as you like until you get precisely the look
you want – without ever wasting a single piece of paper.
