One of the most important components of many scrapbooks is the journaling process.

memories remain intact for years to come, journaling is a component that must be included in
the project.
What is Journaling?
As the name implies, journaling is the process of writing down a lengthy recording of the
special event. This writing serves to describe the event in depth. In order to accomplish this
goal, the writing thoroughly explains what took place and is meant to help accentuate what is
taking place in the photograph or other memorabilia placed on the page.
Types of Journaling
There are many different types of journaling that you can implement in your scrapbooking plans.
Many scrapbookers prefer to journal in a reflective memory that tells a story, including the
emotions and feelings the scrapbooker experienced while creating the scrapbook design.
Others prefer to write their stories in a more reportive tone, as you would read in a newspaper
or magazine.
Other options for journaling include writing poems or song lyrics. Yet other scrapbookers enjoy
placing quotes on their scrapbook pages as a form of journaling instead.
Regardless of the type of journaling you choose to use in your scrapbook, the primary goal is to
provide some type of account of the history of the event. Whether this is best captured with an
emotion-filled story, a factual account, or with a few of your favorite quotes is really up to you.
Making Journaling Decorative
Journaling adds a whole new depth to your scrapbook by helping you to delve deeper into a
memorable event or story. At the same time, it can add a decorative element to your scrapbook
as well.
If you are handwriting your entry, just the fact that it is written in your handwriting can add to the
meaningfulness of the scrapbook. After all, generations from now, seeing the handwritten
journal entry will be quite touching to your family members. Nonetheless, you can take a few
steps to make your journal entry decorative as well.
One method for making your journal entry look more decorative is to learn how to write in a
fancy style, such as calligraphy. Not only will this add class to your scrapbook, it still offers the
level of personalization that handwriting your journal entry provides.
Another option is to take advantage of what technology has to offer and to type your journal entry.
If you type your journal entry on the computer, you can have literally hundreds of different font
designs and colors to select from. When you print the page off with a high-quality printer, it will
be sure to last a very long time and to look good for years to come. And, you can add an
additional decorative element and personal touch by cutting it out with scissors that create a fun
and interesting boarder.
